- Using the main branch of the Davenport Public Library as a starting point, get on 3rd St heading east, then turn left onto East River Dr. Enjoy the view of the river as you go along the bend, then turn left onto Mound St. Turn right onto 11th St, then left onto Jersey Ridge Rd. You’ll drive through the neighborhoods for a few blocks, and then, after the credit union and the intersection with Lombard St, turn right into our parking lot. We’re at 2305 Jersey Ridge Rd.

Davenport, Iowa, the county seat of Scott County, is situated along the Mississippi River on the state’s eastern border. The land was originally inhabited by the Sauk, Meskwaki (Fox), and Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) Native American tribes, with France laying claim to the territory in the 18th century as part of New France and Illinois Country. In 1803, France sold its North American holdings west of the Mississippi River to the United States through the Louisiana Purchase.
A significant event in the city’s early history was the Black Hawk War in 1832, which led to the Black Hawk Purchase. Davenport was founded on May 14, 1836, by Antoine Le Claire, who named it for his friend Colonel George Davenport. The city was officially incorporated on January 25, 1839.
